How to enable the "update now" button/link in awstats

With my first web host, I was able to re-generate my Awstats webstats on the fly, whenever I wanted, by clicking the 'update now' link at the top of the main page. However, when I switched hosts, I noticed that is was gone. I did some digging, and found out how to change the configuration file for Awstats to re-enable the 'update now' button.

Follow these steps:
1. login into cPanel
1a. Open File Manager
2. navigate to /home/username/tmp/awstats/
3. edit the .conf file (e.g. awstats.yourdomain.com.conf)
4. look for this line: AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser, set the value to 1 (AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser=1)
5. Save the .conf file. When you refresh your statistics page. you will get 'update now' link at the top of the page.

This applies for any subdomain as well.

Thanks! All my sites had the Update Now button, except one, and I couldn't figure out how to make it update. Your instructions were easy, although it took me a little while to find the .conf file (it's under the tmp folder). It worked like a charm. Thanks!

Ummm. This works for a day or so, and then re-sets itself to ZERO. Sometimes I get a message:

Error: Update of statistics has not been allowed from a browser (AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser should be set to 1).

Setup ('/home/_____/tmp/awstats/awstats.____________.com.conf' file, web server or permissions) may be wrong.
Check config file, permissions and AWStats documentation (in 'docs' directory).

Any ideas? None of my other sites have any problems like this….

You may need to check with your hosting provider for an answer to this.

Dude, your a legend! I'd be putting up with the no update now button for months after having it on a previous host. I thought it was up to the host to enable or I had a later version of awstats or something. Anyway, thought I'd do a google search on the off chance that you could change it yourself and came across your page.

    Thanks heaps!

    Justin,
That's really awesome! I could use your technique with breeze; but as mentioned by Timm, it gets reset to 0. This is done by the hosting provider.
There are 3 options to overcome this problem:
    1) Talk to the hosting provider. Which I suspect they'll not agree.
    2) Do it manually every time the 'Update Now' link is missing.
    3) Setup a cron which checks the .conf file regularly and updates the flag to 1.
