Are paid text links doomed?

At Digital Point forums, the link sales forum in the Buy/Trade/Sell section is very popular. I see a lot of people buying and selling links, blog posts and WordPress themes based on PageRank. Well, if Matt Cutts' latest blog post is true, then these will all soon be more or less valueless.

It will be interesting to see how this all turns out, as there are many people making their entire living on paid text link advertising!

Honnestly, I don't think we will be penalized for buying links. I think Google is going to far, and want to control the Internet. Also, don't forget, big sites like Yahoo for instance, sells links. So what is suppose Google to do ? Penalizing Yahoo ?
Finally, what is Adsense ? A sort of paid links also.
I really think this is a very big bullshit from Google, and we should not worry too much about it.
