200 Niche Blog Network

Well, I am temporarily unable to attend to business through DigitalPoint forums, because of a two week ban. This is a real shame, and will no doubt cost me some money for the next two weeks :(. The worst part is that I'm still not entirely sure of the reason for the ban. Oh well, suck it up I suppose!

Anyhow, if you'd like to run a post on the Niche Blog Network, you can still get in contact with me. Just post your email address in the comments field. Your email will not be shown, all comments go into moderation. I'll email you the info, and delete your comment.

Looking forward to getting back to DP though!

Should I get satellite radio?

So, I love listening to internet radio at work. I basically listen to WOXY and KEXP every day, and always hear some great new music. I usually end up downloading albums or buying them from the artists' websites or eBay, and if I really like them I go to see them when they come to Toronto.

Anyhow, the problem is driving. Radio stations that I get in my car suck. I often end up making mixed CDs of new stuff that I like, but that takes a lot of time to keep up with. So, that leads me to my next idea. I'm kind of wondering about getting satellite radio. I was recently given a link to a site about Sirius satellite radio, and I have to say, it looks pretty awesome.

It would seem that I can get a lot of the good music, indie included, on satellite radio. I am a little concerned about the idea of having to pay a monthly fee though. If anyone out there has satellite radio (XM or Sirius), can you post a comment, let me know how you like it, whether or not you feel it was worth it? Thanks!

Got fleas?

I can honestly say that this is a first. I've written sponsored posts for companies in the past. But generally speaking it's for a business that is specifically selling a product or service.

However, today I've been asked to write about human flea bites. Yes, you read that right, human flea bites! I mean, when I was a kid, and we had a dog and three cats, I do believe at one point I may have sustained a flea bite or two. But never in a million years would I have thought that someone would build a website dedicated to flea control information, sponsored by advertising!. What can I say, I think it's a cool idea, and the site itself does seem to have some good info, despite the aged design. Anyhow, check it out, you might learn a thing or two.

Google is helping spammers get to your inbox

Pretty much all major anti-spam applications and appliances use URL Blocklists as one of the components in fighting spam. Basically, the first time a piece of spam comes through, it's analyzed, and the spam URL in the email is entered in the database. Now, every other piece of mail that comes through with that URL in it, can quickly be flagged as spam and blocked.

Well, spammers are smart people (though dishonest). They've now figured out a new way to use Google as a means of keeping off the blocklists. (more…)

Every business should have wireless credit card processing

I've recently become very aware of the need for more secure credit card processing - especially in restaurants. The server takes your card away, and you don't see them process the transaction. I've had one restaurant double-charge me, and a colleague of mine has had that happen twice to him, from the same restaurant!

Anyhow - more businesses should look into companies like Aircharge, that provide wireless credit card processing. In a restaurant, it provides a measure of security. But it's also useful for other companies that need to process payments remotely, perhaps at seminars or events. You can actually process them through your cell phone with technology from Aircharge - very cool!
