Very Cheap and Very Reliable Web Hosting

A few years ago I was looking for a hosting provider for my mom's basic website. I didn't need anything fancy, so I just searched Google for 'cheap web hosting'. One of the adword advertisers on the right was making a claim that seemed to good to be true: 'Reliable web hosting for $1.95 per month!'. That was the start of my relationship with Geek Hosting – now called Siteocity.

So yes, $1.95 per month seems pretty suspect. And 10 domains, 400 MB for $6.95 per month even more so. But I can honestly say that I have been with them for several years now with no serious problems whatsoever. I have had very little down time, and any support calls are dealt with immmediately. The URL is www.siteocity.com. If you want, when you sign up you can put my name (Justin Cook) in the 'referred by' field. But you don't have to!

I wanted to write this post for anyone who's looking for a cheap webhost, and want some idea or trustworthiness. Here are the specs of the servers and the hosting service:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3
  • Apache 1.3.34
  • PHP 4.4.1
  • MySQL 4.0.25
  • CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz
  • RAM: 2GB
  • POP3 and MAPI mail accounts
  • One-step install of most open source web applications (Mambo, OSCommerce, etc)
  • Option to backup to FTP server. If I knew how to use cron, I could perform automated FTP backups

Anyhow, you'll find the rest of the stats on their website. Hope this helps!
